Hey long time lurker first time poster. My internet service provider is a small town provider that holds a monopoly over my neighborhood.

Pretty much they have a contract with the neighborhood making them the only ISP that we can get internet from. The problem is they don't hold up their end of the service. The internet is constantly down at least for several hours a day. I usually end up calling and poof it's magically fixed for the next few hours. What are my consumer rights in this instance? (TN) What methods do I have to get out of this monopoly and get another ISP in the neighborhood. I know many other people have the same problem in my neighborhood should I collect signitures. Do I have any fire power for a suit?

I changed my DNS server from automatic to Google's public DNS server's 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 I've also tried switching to other DNS servers like OpenDNS's (208.67.222.222). Neither of them made any changes to my internet connection. I am still only able to access google based services (Youtube, Gmail, Google search).

My questions are: 1. Is there any legal action I can take because my speed is.
